The project is located in Shangxia Village, Jiashan, Zhejiang Province, with a total site area of approximately 15,600 square metres. It stretches 367 metres from east to west, with a maximum width of approximately 54 metres from north to south and a minimum of 21 metres. The site originally housed a village. When we first visited the site, the village had already been largely demolished, leaving only two houses. The long and narrow site is generally flat, with little undulation. One side borders an irrigation canal, and the whole site is enveloped by agricultural land.

Ginkgo Gallery by MORE Architecture is an innovative new museum on a ginkgo tree-covered island, in Jiaxing, China. Inspired by the DNA of local villages, the museum invites visitors to wander through and discover the different sections as if they were exploring a small town. It is therefore set up as a blend of two traditional museum typologies – the guided museum meets the free plan museum, creating a floorplan with ‘fluid spaces’. The orientation towards, and connection with the surrounding water and landscape generate a deep relationship between culture and art. Overview. Located in the southeast of the intersection of Zhongxing Road and Zhenguan Road, Xitang Town, Jiashan County, a two-story wooden structure exhibition and conference center has been built. The project faces the south-natural water system of Shili Port, which connects the millennium historic town Xitang to the west, and then connects the origin of the Yangtze River Delta - the Watertown Parlor to the east. Closely adhering to the development theme of "Integration" and "High Quality", the project positioning emphasizes creating an internationally advanced green building benchmark with Jiangnan features. The project floor area is about 12,800㎡with both large and medium-sized meeting rooms, reception, exhibition hall, parking lot, and outdoor activity areas, which can accommodate about 500 people for a conference, exhibition, and research activities at the same time.

Use of the status quo/ Cope with structure. There were existing foundations and basements on the site when FCJZ received the commission to redesign the buildings from the ground up. We transformed the previous 9m square-column grid into a concrete structural system that places columns at 4.5m intervals and spans 28-32m. The new columns take on the shape of a 0.3m thick shear wall.

In early 2019, ALL Studio was asked by HUATENG Co., Ltd. to design the exhibition hall of Shiwan town (an ancient town in the south of Wuzhen town) in an agricultural tourism park. In the planning design, the whole park retains the original natural feeling to the greatest extent. When people enter the site from the southwest corner of the park, they can see the plum forest and open grassland surrounded by bamboo fences in the park. Therefore, the design consideration of the exhibition hall building is also defined as a simple and rough temperament in nature from the beginning of the design.

The City Lounge is located on Zhongshan Road, the core area of the old city of Jiaxing. The site is sandwiched among buildings of different ages and is a typical urban debris space. The project is part of the old town remodeling plan of Jiaxing and is different from the large-scale overall renewal. It introduces Jane Jacobs' "street eye" concept into the debris space reconstruction, trying to apply the "organ style" point of renewal to arouse the public's passion for the complex and diverse life in the old city.

North Zone Silk Factory / OLI Architecture PLLC

The town of Wuzhen is famous for its traditional architectural heritage. However, before the advent of tourism, it was a quaint country town with some light industry, most notably a silk factory bordering the canal. Chen Xianghong, the developer of Wuzhen, fought the urban planning laws that mandated the removal of the buildings and secured the preservation of the factory as well as the underappreciated memory of its recent past. Built before the modernisation of China, the factory used construction techniques that saved on materials: elaborate concrete trusses carrying a traditional wooden roof frame. Each hall was built successively with its own structural system.
