The project was born from a dream shared by a couple who had lived for many years in the place they loved, in Itanhangá, Rio de Janeiro. The house they lived in no longer aligned with their lifestyle desires. They wanted something simpler, practical, without excess, but full of beauty and with a generous garden. The linear layout of the construction, positioned along the longitudinal boundary of the land, was designed to favor the main entrance through a green pathway, maximizing the gardens and preserving almost all of the existing trees. Practical access for cars and service areas was strategically placed at the front of the property, while the private spaces were located at the back. At the intersection of these spaces lies the open dining room, fulfilling the client's desire to dine outdoors. A great surprise came upon visiting the site: the chosen position of the house provided a perfect view of Pedra da Gávea, a delight for the residents' eyes.

With this astonishing view and all this shades of green, it doesn´t feel like you´re in Rio de Janeiro! This is about arriving home and not wanting to leave. The house, even with huge proportions, lacked a leisure area better suited to the couple´s lifestyle. Then we designed this annex. On our first meeting, the clients told us that they have friends over all the time, but when there is a big party, they need to cover the pool and put a canopy over it.

The Hang Glider House was built in the neighborhood of Itanhanga, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The house is located by the foot of Tijuca Forrest, and the Pedra da Gavea Mountain. The mountain provides scenic views, and it is used as jumping platforms for Hang Gliders, which serve as inspiration for the geometry of the house.

The house is located in Itanhangá, a residential neighborhood at the beginning of Barra da Tijuca, in Rio de Janeiro. The lot, once virgin, lies within the dense Tijuca Forest, surrounded by native vegetation and picturesque topography.
