Scarlet Pavilion is a lightweight, reversible hospitality project situated within the protected riverside corridor of the Perfume River in Hue, where strict regulations preserve the natural landscape. In this context, the project embraces these constraints as the foundation of its architectural identity. Designed as a second home and a boutique retreat for a young couple, the pavilion adopts a reversible system that can be assembled, disassembled, and returned to its original state, minimizing long-term impact on the site.

The "three-compartment, two-wing" house (nhà ba gian, hai chái) is a hallmark of traditional rural architecture in Vietnam. Its name reflects its structure: three central bays (gian), with the middle bay serving as a reception area and ancestral altar, and the two flanking bays functioning as bedrooms or living spaces. On either side of the main hall are two smaller wings (chái), often used as kitchens, storage rooms, or additional sleeping quarters.

Kho Ren is a residential development designed to meet the housing requirements of a two-generational family consisting of five members. The housing project is situated near the An Cuu River in Hue City, on a land area with a combination of zigzag roads covering 100 square meters. Despite some disadvantages related to the land shape, house orientation, and limited land use, one advantage is the refreshing breeze from the An Cuu River.

Ton Corner Coffee Shop / TON Architects

Situated in a small alley in the heart of Hue city, Ton Corner - a coffee shop that embodies an open and dynamic spirit, is inspired by the simple life of small street corners. The original small, deteriorating house was demolished to raise the foundation to prevent flooding. Since the land is leased on a short-term basis, the project is built with a steel structure with the main covering materials being corrugated iron, old wood, and tempered glass. Corrugated iron is considered a roofing material and is only used for covering industrial works. In humid, rainy climates like Hue, people use corrugated iron to cover the outside walls of their houses to prevent water seepage, However, using corrugated iron without proper aesthetic and technical treatment will cause the house to lose its original aesthetic value, even creating a shabby appearance in the urban landscape.

Hue is the ancient capital of Vietnam, this city still has an ancient appearance and stores many heritages. The downtown area is really narrow, plus the harsh humid tropical climate, which is extremely hot in summer and rainy in winter. Therefore, most of the residential architecture here is still a tube house with a rather boring, old, and safe architectural form.

The investor is a young couple with little kids, who used to live in an apartment where there was a lack of space for green areas and natural light. Therefore, when coming to our design team, the homeowner's desire is to put the highest priority on the life quality. The living area is not necessarily too large but has ample space for a garden to get closer to nature every day. Also, there should be a playground for the little kids. At the same time, the living area overcomes the stuffiness of the apartment, ensuring that the functional spaces must receive natural sunlight and wind.

The Hillside house is located on a hillside west of Hue City, Vietnam. The architects have made it as simple as possible because of the inherent beauty of the surrounding terrain. The construction site has a gradually descending slope and is surrounded by green gardens. The house is designed with two stories on the site's highest point, providing a breathtaking view of the surrounding hillsides. A pathway cut through the ground opens into a basement, allowing family vehicles to access the center of the house. There are two landscaped walkways along the slope towards the hall and a BBQ yard on both sides.
