As part of a densification operation, the Nieuw-Zuid project in Hilversum adds an ensemble of five buildings to a fifties neighbourhood with porch flats and abundant greenery. A pre-existing residential-care complex has been replaced with new constructions and densified with social housing.

The new hospital offers a soft, calming, and open environment for patients and staff. Nature and daylight play an important role in the design. The building features numerous windows overlooking the beautiful green surroundings.

Villa Trompenberg / Engel Architecten

In 2017, Engel Architecten was asked to design a house on a plot in the villa district Trompenberg in Hilversum. The plot is located in a wooded area on the outskirts of the village. The allowed building area is located near the middle of the lot and is surrounded by trees, which guarantee privacy for the residents. The house was built in 2 phases, the first of which was completed in 2019. The second phase was finished in 2021. In the meantime, the garden, designed by Anet Scholma, was laid out.

Recognisable identity
With its characteristic industrial buildings, the former site of the Regional Energy Supply Company in Hilversum has always had its own identity. The gasworks site was originally situated outside the city perimeter, but gradually became enclosed by residential developments. With the relocation of the gasworks, the opportunity arose to redevelop the site and give it a new name: Villa Industria.

A bungalow in Naarden built in 1967 was extended and transformed by Dick van Gameren into a contemporary villa. The visionary design led to a timeless house that reflects the personalities and needs of its owners. Previous renovations closed off the original heart of the house from the living space and entrance hall.

This summer the Tergooi Hospital in Hilversum commissioned a pavilion where patients with cancer can serve their chemotherapy in the open air. The structure consists of a number of joint and individual seats, which are included in an earthen embankment. Patients are surrounded by grass, flowers and shrubs.

It sometimes happens that you are asked to produce something you have actually wanted to do for some time. A customer called and asked if we could build a log shack in his field, one that would be large enough to sit and write inside. I loved the idea from the start. Oddly enough, we've recently received quite a few questions about the log shack we produced years ago.
