Beijing National Day School Student Creative Activity Center / Origin Architect

Beijing National Day School is renowned for its student-led, open and free campus culture. Every year, students initiate ten campus improvement proposals, which receive full support from the school authorities.The former School Uniform Center, located in the northeast corner of the campus, was listed on the 2023 Annual Ten Practical Campus Improvement Projects due to student concerns regarding space experience and frequency of use.Originally built as an underground concrete fish pond, the building had undergone numerous extension and partition, resulting in a chaotic and disorganized function: the underground bookstore and print shop were dim, damp and poorly ventilated; the ground-floor uniform storage and exhibition area was cramped and enclosed, standing in stark contrast to the natural beauty of the surrounding pine woods. Seizing this renovation opportunity, Origin Architect seeks to revitalize the building under pines and sunshine, metamorphosing it into a free realm that stirs students' sensibility and creative thinking.

Expansion of STUDIO SCRIPT OFFICE / Studio Script

This is the office expansion project for Script Architecture Studio. Previously, it was an old state-owned machine tool workshop located in a Beijing hutong. Amid urban renewal, the old factory area was transformed into a creative park combining office and commercial spaces. The original open workshop was divided into 4.2m x 8.5m units based on column spans, intended for small businesses. Script Architecture Studio initially occupied one unit. As the team grew, the studio rented an adjacent unit. This pattern of expansion and retraction has happened many times, leading to multiple renovations. The east and west partition walls are now a collage of red bricks and light steel keel structures. On the south side of each unit is a large window, 2.9m wide and 2.3m high, outside of which stands a tall Ailanthus tree. In spring and summer, entering from the north corridor, the space is filled with green.

A “high-tech community in the sky” was created on the site of this former furniture factory. What once was a production space with heavy pollution was transformed into a technological park for the robotics industry, with dozens of high-tech companies and R+D centers.
