This milestone marks Miller Hullʼs third project completed with the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO), following the completion of the new U.S. Embassy Niamey, Niger, and the new U.S. Embassy Guatemala City. Navigating nuanced programs through the fundamentals of good design, Miller Hullʼs consulate balances technical and security requirements with the productivity needs of the diplomatic mission.

Atlas Academia Sport Facility / Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos

Sordo Madaleno has designed a new home for one of Mexico's longest-lived football teams, Atlas FC, based in Guadalajara. Called Academia Atlas, the building serves six professional football fields and includes clubhouses, applied sport science facilities, and administrative offices. A key role of the project is to offer accommodation and resources to young players from less privileged backgrounds. Using locally-sourced materials and embracing traditional construction techniques, Sordo Madaleno worked with Atlas FC and Orlegi Sports to transform the seven-hectare site into a collegiate-style campus full of vibrant, young, and healthy people connecting through the most popular sport in the country.

Casa Lantana is a home designed to offer a retreat-like space within the city, fostering both relaxation and connection. It captures the essence of a peaceful getaway while maintaining its urban context. The ground floor becomes an open plan, a terrace-like space where the complete opening of its windows allows the exterior to blend seamlessly with the interior. The heights of the public area are enhanced by a level change that separates the entrance and kitchen from the living and dining areas, maintaining a shared view while distinguishing the spaces through variations in elevation.

Xokol Restaurant / ODAmx + Rubén Valdez

Located in the neighborhood of Santa Tere in Guadalajara, Xokol is a restaurant in which the act of eating becomes a collective ritual. The architecture of the space acts as a catalyst for the reinterpretation of Mexican culinary traditions and a communal dining experience in which the boundaries between diners, staff, and food preparation are non-existent.

Located in one of the areas with the most trees in Guadalajara, enjoying a microclimate due to its proximity to the Colomos forest and the Atemajac River, La Guaira building was designed to take advantage of all the elements given its location. The central design concept was based on its adaptation to the immediate context through a suitable scale, seeking integration of open spaces that live in synergy with the exterior through large balconies and terraces.

XX de Noviembre Apartment Building / Estudio Hidalgo

The Veinte de Noviembre project is an architectural proposal that seeks to dialogue with the general qualities of downtown Guadalajara, and more specifically, with the tradition of the Analco neighborhood, given that the dialogue is established under the premise of architectural modernity. The site allows the building to witness a monumental conversation between eras, manifested through materials ranging from stone and brick to steel and reinforced concrete. Just one block away from Calzada Independencia, it is a participant in the eternal tension between its two sides. It is also indebted to the energy generated by the Plaza de Los Dos Templos, the Mercado Libertad, and the Parish of San José de Analco.

Located in a private subdivision in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, the Bonsai House rests on a 12x22m (39.37x72.18 ft) lot and faces Southwest on a downward slope of 2m (6.56 ft). The owners, a young couple with children, were looking for a house in which to raise their kids. Among their requests was an indoor pool to be used mainly for exercise and physical therapy. Due to this, the common areas including the living room, dining room, and kitchen would be adapted to these needs.

Bit Loft is located on the corner of Colon Avenue and Montenegro Street, in the Historic Center of Guadalajara, in the Mexicaltzingo neighborhood, a very traditional area of the city. It is an apartment building designed for people who prioritize a central location in the city and to have public amenities on the premises for work and recreation.

Octo Restaurante / Herre Arquitectos

Octo Restaurante is a space that came to life in one of the most traditional areas of Guadalajara, Colonia Lafayette. It is a house from the early 1960s, which the architect Luis Fernando Hernández and the creative Luis Manuel Hernández reformed completely to adapt it to the needs demanded by a restaurant where respect for the product, its traceability and technique were the main design axes. Brick, brass, tzalam wood, granite, and blown glass are several of the materials that built the facade of the space, its two staircases, balconies, terraces, and roof, as well as its open kitchen and service areas. Every detail that characterizes the three levels of Octo, opened in November 2021, speaks of a contrast to the sister restaurant called Bruna that preceded it and that is located next to it, a place full of vegetation with several sculptural gardens.

Clínica LR is a building to provide medical care and surgery to the community in the western part of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area. It is developed on a very limited site around pre-existing buildings. Its only façade, which faces a busy avenue in Zapopan, receives the rays of the sun every morning, coming from the east. This situation, coupled with the fact that the main hours of operation of the building are during the morning, led us to generate a blind facade to promote the interior comfort of the building, providing ventilation through two patios that cross vertically through the building. Leaving only a wink from the interior to the exterior the reception is a glazed box shaded by the overhang generated by the upper levels.

Romea Morelos Restaurant / Antumbra estudio

The project involved relocating Romea’s head branch, a recognized wine love mark in Guadalajara, to a property with environmental artistic value surrounded by some buildings from the early and mid-20th century. An important guideline of the project was to design the easement area of the plot with a light structure that is reminiscent of verandas found in houses of that time while remaining friendly to pedestrians.
