Grid Arthub is located in Hall 31B, a late 19th-century industrial building in the Gdańsk Shipyard, a site historically associated with both shipbuilding and the Solidarity movement. The project began with an intention to preserve the hall's layered identity while introducing a flexible contemporary program that could support the growing creative sector in Gdańsk. The inspiration came from the building's long and changing history. Over time, it served as a wood-drying plant, mess hall, boxing gym, and office space. Rather than erasing these traces, the design sought to work with them, maintaining a sense of continuity while opening the interior to new uses.

The modernization of the Main Building of the Wybrzeże Theater in Gdańsk was a very difficult, arduous but also extremely fascinating task for me and my team. The studio's portfolio includes theater, opera and performance buildings but none of them was so close and so personal to us. We started the design work in 2015 with the winning competition for the new auditorium and practically, with varying intensity, we continued it until July of this year.

The project, carried out by architects from the IFA Group, is located in one of the residential estates of single-family houses in Gdańsk. The architecture of the new houses in the area is highly diverse in terms of spatial order and aesthetics. Proportions for the building were drawn from the surrounding environment, and the color of the facade was inspired by the colors of the land on which the house stands. The design aimed to simplify the form of the building, eliminating unnecessary decorations. Every decision made during the design process has its own rationale.

Presenting the narrative of the Second World War in a comprehensive way, the museum will focus specifically on the war’s impact on the everyday life of civilians and soldiers. The choice of Gdańsk as the site of the museum is also significant – not only was it where the war broke out, it was also where Solidarity emerged during the post-war division of the world.
