Set of villas located next to a pine forest. The volumes develop perpendicularly to the road, facing south. They land along the natural slope of the land, the garage, with only one floor, finishes the volumetry. The house basis begins as a wall, then surrounds the main volume and finally, again as a wall embraces the garage, giving a sense of continuity. The first floor swings on the lower floor, detaching from it, giving a sense of lightness to the whole.

This plot is located in S. Pedro do Estoril, a suburb of Lisbon, within walking distance to beach. Waterfront ambiance defines the privileged character of this area, once a summer retreat of local aristocratic families. It is inserted on a large scale urbanization, in a medium density sector for single family homes. Local regulations define basic parameters – building in the center of the plot, leaving the surrounding space for a garden. It allows for a 3 floor house, one below ground, restricts building footprint and total gross area.

The Project of “Estoril 153” intends to solve the difference of levels between two streets. This is done with the creation of a services ground floor where two housing volumes settle. The volume A, with 5 levels, ensures the west urban front of the Mello e Sousa street. It´s turned to the sea and that explains the multiplous terraces it has as well as its grey color that is inspired on the foggy days sky common of this coast areas. This color is also the color of the predominant stone – “azulino de cascais”.
