The Diriyah Biennale Foundation is Saudi Arabia's primary institution dedicated to promoting contemporary and Islamic arts from the region and beyond. Upon its establishment in 2021, Bricklab won an international competition for the design and construction of its headquarters in Riyadh's JAX creative district. One of the first anchor tenants in the district, the foundation called for the rehabilitation of 8 decommissioned warehouses spanning a total area of 16,000 m2 to host world-class galleries, art handling facilities, public workshop areas, offices, an auditorium, and a multipurpose plaza.

In 2015, a group of visionary artists, led by Ahmed Mater, mobilized against the limiting currents of the cultural practices of their time. They scouted for possible areas around Riyadh to assemble a space for creatives and discovered a declining industrial district in the historic seat of the Saudi State, Ad Diriyah. Once a gritty and bustling light-industrial area, the 'JAX Creative District' was reimagined as a meeting place for creatives and a celebration of the town's rich and varied history.

On November 25th, the "Diriyah Art Futures" in Riyadh – the first museum in the Gulf designed exclusively for digital art – will open with the major exhibition Art Must Be Artificial: Perspectives of AI in the Visual Arts, curated by Jerome Neutres and featuring guests from around the world. The building, created by Italian architects Schiattarella Associati, is the first public project launched as part of Vision 2030, the ambitious plan guiding Saudi Arabia's economic, cultural, and social transformations in the coming years.

Set on a 12,300 m2 plot along the eastern periphery of Ad Diriyah's former industrial quarter, the new Ministry of Culture Office complex is only a few meters away from the Diriyah Biennale Foundation and the upcoming JAX creative district. Its strategic site is perched on an elevated plateau overlooking a tributary extending from Wadi Hanifa.
