The tower, built in successive layers (15th Century, and 1870s), used for defense and then for watching the city, remains an urban observatory through the new age, a place of contemplation and reading of urban development. The new age is materialized through a discrete, integrated, and unitary intervention, which aims, by simple and reversible means, to obtain a consistent activation of the tower, while also providing a reading on the past and future city.

The house is built on the footprint of an old building, which had to be reconstructed and expanded in order to accommodate the requests of the clients. Orientations and functionality had to be taken well into consideration, as the façade of the building is facing south, eastern sun was perfect for orienting the bedroom windows, and the view towards the neighboring plaza was facing south east. The family wanted to have a private common space, which was best positioned on the highest level, with a terrace on the corner of the building, perfectly facing the plaza. This solution was solved by shifting the main axis of the roof diagonally thus generating a very dynamic space for the top level of the house – the family room – where a gym, a living room and a play-room share the open floorplan. This diagonal roof also helped in creating very clean façade lines.

The wedge on the edge: the Tektum offices in Cluj. In the old town of Cluj, built on a section of the medieval city wall, there stood a house marked for demolition. It was this house Tektum Architecture bought to build its own offices. Archaeologists of the city preservation committee demanded that the architect revealed and exhibited as much of the city wall as possible, as the basement level of the wall consisted of Roman stone blocks built in 2000 years ago.

The site's location is on the outer strip of the city's intra muros area of Cluj, an area best described as an architectural mélange of small historical houses with gardens and new and more expansive hotel and educational complexes. The new medical center occupies a small corner plot, between two streets with different hierarchies, and is replacing an existing ground floor house. At its eastern limit, hidden behind the gardens and houses, waves the course of the Water Mill’s Canal, designed since the 16th century to supply the water mills in the city. Unfortunately, on our plot it was covered to facilitate the extension of the annexes of the initially existing house, thus becoming invisible to passers-by on the secondary street.

The project of the house was born after a laborious and methodical approach, in which the clients organized a competition with 7 architectural offices, less characteristic for an investment of such level. After choosing the company with which they will collaborate, the design process continued with many variants and discussions, which crystallized, on the one hand, their wishes - a home with a distinct image but without displaying it ostentatiously, with spaces that totalized to a relatively big area for the existing land, but with the preservation of a generous courtyard area, and, on the other hand, ranking the elements of the context that will shape the volume and space. The slope of the land - about 4 m height, the 2 blind walls present on the limits of property, the perspective over the city, the cardinal orientation, all this led to a volume with the appearance of a bridge, under which the court can flow freely, generating different outdoor spaces, individually related to the inner functions.

The Office Cluj, an office building ensemble recently finalized, has begun as an urban regeneration project for the brownfield plot left by the old textile industry, in the vicinity of Cluj-Napoca’s historic centre. As in most communist cities, this area became part of the industrial framework of Cluj-Napoca, which even now includes some leftover industries and factories. To the north of the site, there still exists an old water channel, a small ramification of the Someș river while to the south there is the main boulevard and the main connection to the historic city centre, to the west.

The new Multifunctional Sports Hall is the newest piece of public infrastructure for training, championships and cultural events, in a building conceived to be part of an ensemble together with Cluj Arena, the soccer and athletics stadium also designed by Dico and Tiganas and opened in 2011. Both objectives have generated new public spaces relating the Central Garden of the City with the river Somes banks promenades, towards a Sports park and another public garden in a sequence of public spaces of almost 2 kilometers.
