L'ALZINA Residential Complex / Jaime Prous Architects

On a dense pine forest gently sloping down to a landscape of meadows and lakes, this complex of twenty-three homes is proposed. The aim is to hide under the thick shade of the pines and go unnoticed with slow, local, and surprising architecture.

Located on the Girona PGA golf course, the house seeks the best views of the place where it is located. The project is resolved with two extruded spaces, two overlapping volumes, in which the upper one moves in the direction of the lake in front of it giving rise to a cantilever that seeks to generate a large terrace in shade.

Classical palatial buildings and old industrial spaces, such as the medieval dockyards, both share (at least) three conditions. First of all, the space is continuous and flows from room to room. Secondly, the structural vanes are equivalent, regular and adaptable. And finally, the volume of the series of spaces is not only related to the room size, but also to the holistic interpretation of the building. Of course, other obvious features differentiate these two typologies.
