Wood-Concrete House / mano

This project transforms a modest 1930s suburban house into a generous and light-filled dwelling. Located in a narrow plot within a discontinuous urban fabric, the new structure reinterprets the typology of the detached pavilion, extending vertically while preserving the urban scale and rhythm of the street.

KAAN Architecten has completed JUMP in Paris, a vision of urban vitality and sustainable design principles. JUMP is located at the intersection of diverse urban areas in Aubervilliers, Paris. Commissioned by Icade, KAAN Architecten designed a building that connects two green zones, "Place du Front Populaire" and the urban forest of "Parc Icade des Portes de Paris". With its colossal landing, JUMP has established itself as the central point of convergence in the area. The building integrates a hotel, offices, retail spaces, and parking. The design embraces the area's eclectic architecture and enhances the dynamism of this urban area served by Metro Line 12.

The project is a workshop for a photographer. It includes a storage area and a place for indoor and outdoor photography. Located in a craft area of the city of Aubervilliers, the building occupies almost the entire plot and the available height that regulations can offer.

At the corner of rue des Cités and venelle Neuve, the project is part of a set of 220 housing units and 150 student housing units that we coordinate. It includes 98 collective housing units for accession, distributed around 5 stairwells. The volumetrics are centered around the treatment of the facades on the new alley.

The aim is to create a modern working environment that gives this special place a strong identity, in particular by linking architecture and landscape. The project participates in the development of this new district and dialogues with the important surrounding buildings, the shopping center and the Heaquarter of Icade which are also structured around the channel Darse.

Responding to a mixed-used program of living and working a shell was implemented into the ample volume of the existing industrial building. The newly introduced structure is detached from the ground floor only connecting through a cantilevering staircase. It defines a top and a bottom, creating a living space and one dedicated to working.

For Aubervilliers, a municipality in the immediate vicinity of the capital, but divorced from it due to a peripheral rift that separates the populations and undermines synchronicity, the construction of a primary school is double good news. Good news for the life of the citizenry which displays its strength in the construction of this important new facility. Good news also for a metropolitan gamble that has finally paid off, with evidence of the demographic vitality of the town.

As part of the urban renewal of the « Auvry Barbusse » district, in the city of Aubervilliers, the construction company Bouygues Immobilier launched in January 2011, an Architecture competition for the project management of 39 multi-family housings, 3 craftshops, and a carpark. The architects were given the constraint of using wood for the building structure and to team up with the appropriate contractor in order to work from the early design with their know-how and construction processes.
