The new school "Europa" in Almería is an extension of a very prestigious school. The idea is to free up space in the original building which was a P.U.A. (Plan de Urgencias de Andalucía for very popular educational centers in the 70s, characterized by its rhomboidal floor plan) and thus separate primary education in the original building and infant education in this new extension.

The greenhouses of western Almeria extend to almost touch the sea in the Port of Roquetas. To the east, Cabo de Gata serves as a backdrop to a rich landscape of boats that reminds us of the importance of the sea in the history of this land. This project aims to mediate between both worlds, greenhouses, and boats.

The building began his (her,your) construction with a term very fitted to be able to lodge a Center of Data processing working before the Games of the Mediterranean 2005 that was celebrated in Almeria. The building answers to the project called Digital City, the Center is in use for the automatic regulation of communications and diverse metropolitan facilities in the municipal area almeriense. The Installation gives service also to diverse public and private entities. The program includes, besides the Center a diaphanous plant(floor) closely of 2000 m2. For offices in the top floors. A terrace was created which allowed us to open up the views overlooking the sea on one side and mountains on the other. We located the building at the edge of the northern boundary at the highest viewpoint as the southern part was very steep. From this position we designed a floor layout that allowed us to enjoy the double prospect of the building and at the same time taking maximum advantage of what the site has to offer.

A small museum in the old town of Almeria, it sits next to the cathedral and is separated by a narrow pedestrian street. Situated on an irregular plot resulting from the addition of small plots left over from the urban fabric of the city, it has the only façade which faces the back of the cathedral, whose walls of sandstone masonry tower above it.

A covered public square: this was the initial idea behind the design that has been seen through to the end. Its elevated and privileged location in one of the routes into Almería, ensure that this design places a strong emphasis on the view. The terrace in the café hangs over the site, providing a sensation of weightlessness set against the round presence of the roof that emerges from the ground.

The building is made up of a ground and first floor and a basement intended for a garage and storerooms. The flat roof may only be accessed for maintenance. The centre is structured around a series of internal courtyards, which provide ventilation and lighting to the various rooms. Its exterior has a contemporary look, based on a perforated ceramic prism, which sits on and is supported by a block finished with prefabricated concrete slabs.

On speaking about Velez-Rubio it is inevitable to refer to the weight the landscape has on this population. From the motorway Murcia-Granada, Velez-Rubio emerges on the side of Maimon, as a child protected by her mother against the immensity of the grandiose mountain range of Sierra María, in dialogue with the peak La Muela. It must be pointed out that we are speaking of a territory full of revelations, like the discovery of the well known Abrigo or Cueva de los Letreros, located at the side of the mountain range Sierra de Maimon Grande, where paintings like the “Indalo” (anthropomorphic figure which has come to represent Almeria), “El Brujo” or “El Hechicero”, among others, are housed. The cave paintings of los Velez were declared artistic/cultural heritage by the UNESCO in December 1998.

At an urban level, the building is situated on the corner of two very narrow streets, but avoids a direct relationship with them, closing the first two levels of the house around an enclosed external courtyard, which is both controlled and thermally benficial. In contrast, the top floor opens fully onto an open terrace above the street that allows distant views over the church towards the sea.
