After more than eight years of effort and a passed bond vote, Aberdeen proceeded with replacing its 1950’s era library. The former library was overcrowded, had little natural light, and suffered from repeated water damage. A new civic based design was pursued to address these issues, and to develop a new “living room” for the city. The result is a state-of-the-art building that can both inspire and serve the needs of the community. This library was not designed to be a bin for dusty books and card files; it was designed to be a center of creativity, research and collaboration...and to be free to the public.

An architecture lecture series society at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and the Built Environment in Aberdeen, Scotland. The society, 57°10, has been running for 27 years and invites guest lecturers to the school to talk about the ideas and projects explored by their practices. The society prides itself in being student led; providing lectures that will in turn inspire our future architects, perhaps on topics out-with the discourse of the school.https://www.facebook.com/FiftySevenTenSociety

The new building at Aberdeen Sports Village is a civic building and the product of an enlightened community of client groups. The joint funders of the project - the University of Aberdeen, SportScotland and Aberdeen City Council - worked together with Reiach and Hall during 2005-2007 to carefully define a brief that met their contrasting requirements. The building was procured using a single stage design and build contract which lasted 22 months from contract award to building completion. The building opened to the public in August 2009.
