The challenge was to design a fully functional weekend dwelling within a mere 20-square-meter footprint, achieving uncompromising comfort alongside complete energy autonomy in local climatic conditions. The cabin is situated at the edge of the Zlatý Roh vineyards, approximately 3 km above the ECK restaurant. Perched above Devín Castle, the site offers an expansive view across the vines toward the sunset over the Austrian Alps. The location carries a strong atmosphere, and our architectural intent was to create a sanctuary that provides security in every season while maintaining an immediate and uninterrupted connection with the surrounding landscape.

Compact yet deeply intentional, the 2.5m x 8m prefabricated timber retreat champions minimalism, off-grid living, and cultural rootedness - a sharp contrast to the sprawling concrete villas increasingly dominating the island's landscape.

After careful investigation, SpActrum concluded that while the original site strategy had failed in form and material, the trees that grew alongside the buildings over twenty years stood out as an effective natural strategy. The first task was to persuade the client to abandon a "radically refreshed" look, instead rebuilding cabins and walkways with contemporary techniques – a return to a "non-referential" state.

In architectural discourse, the notion of the "local" is often associated with regionally rooted building knowledge—materials, structures, and craftsmanship shaped by long-term interaction between human practices and the environment. In contemporary China, however, the idea of local construction is frequently reduced to two recognizable paradigms: rural architecture employing traditional materials and techniques, and hybrid practices that juxtapose local materials with industrial systems. Such interpretations overlook a broader and more pervasive reality.

Satoyama Terrace is a small-scale hospitality project situated within a traditional Japanese satoyama landscape, where natural systems and human activity have historically coexisted in dynamic balance. The project begins with a fundamental question: how can architecture engage with this landscape without reducing it to a static or consumable image? Rather than reproducing a nostalgic rural scenery, the design reinterprets the relationships embedded in satoyama and translates them into a contemporary spatial experience. Water, wind, soil, and vegetation are treated not as background elements, but as active forces shaping perception and occupation.

The project of Dexamenes is one that matures gracefully over time, like wine—a story of continuity, gentle projection into the future, and constant entropy. Quiet reinvention has become part of its character: the hotel evolves in modest gestures, extending itself, layer by layer, season by season.

Paying homage to Henry David Thoreau, the idea was born to spend time in the woods, concentrating on writing and conceptualising the client's activism.

On a 3,000-meter-high ridge in Jiuzhaigou lies a micro-village of just eight wooden cabins—China's smallest administrative village. It appears pinned against the sky by the wind, coexisting with clouds, fir trees, and rocky terrain. Now, we are tasked with transforming this unique site into a resort. Design here is not about "renovation," but about "recalling": recalling the memories sealed within the land, the breath hidden in the mountain forests and timber, and the traces of time buried in the layered mountains. Let aged wood be rekindled, let old houses rise again, let mountain springs sing once more. Let every piece of old timber return to the slopes, and let every crack tell the story of wind and frost.

Located in the heart of a Lille business district developed around forty years ago, the Babel Community coliving residence is part of a broader process of urban and environmental regeneration. The project involves the transformation of a site formerly occupied by obsolete and energy-inefficient office buildings. In their place now stands a 304-room hospitality residence complemented by a wide range of services and shared amenities, conceived as a new living environment within an area historically dedicated to tertiary activities.

On November 10, 1943, the city of Recco was destroyed forever. Twenty-two bombers of the British Royal Air Force dropped 33 tons of explosives, attempting to demolish the railway bridge, an iconic element of the town and a crucial point for the supply of Nazi-fascist troops. The bombing caused the deaths of numerous civilians and almost completely destroyed the characteristic Ligurian village. The town was razed to the ground. On November 11, the landscape around the railway bridge bore the spectral image of one of the most picturesque villages on the Levante coast: Recco was now only a memory, with only a few houses and a few scattered monuments left intact. During the years of reconstruction, some renowned architects were called upon to revive the town, including Luigi Vietti, the designer of the Town Hall building. Among the victims of the bombing was a large part of a beautiful Franciscan complex dating back to the 1400s, of which the church was almost entirely destroyed.

Qingshuiyan Ancestral Hall Supporting Facility Renovation Set within the core scenic area of the thousand-year-old Qingshuiyan Ancestral Hall in Anxi, Quanzhou, this project renovates a decommissioned old bus station left unused after its functional relocation. The site is anchored by a moss-draped ancient banyan tree at the center of a forest-framed open square, with a dilapidated two-story station building, native rock formations, and ancient mossy paths defining its unique natural and historic context. First built in the Northern Song Dynasty, Qingshuiyan Ancestral Hall sits at the northern foot of perennially mist-shrouded Penglai Mountain. As a vital folk belief center for Fujian, Taiwan and Southeast Asian communities with over 100 million believers, the hall shaped the project's core ethos of harmony with nature and local heritage. The in-situ renovation integrates tea houses, vegetarian restaurants, and rest areas as a complementary facility for the ancestral hall.
