Twin Pitches now stands as a joyful, light-filled four-bedroom, highly energy-efficient family home. The clients, Phoebe and Paul Sprinz, had a clear ambition to improve the spatial quality and comfort of the house, making thoughtful gestures to optimize and enhance the existing footprint. Setting out to build their forever home, the clients worked with Atelier Baulier to reimagine and extend the house, prioritising a low-impact, future-forward approach while creating a space full of personality and heart.

Pend has completed a sensitive renovation and expansion of Whitberry, a Grade B listed Georgian farmhouse in East Lothian, Scotland. Working alongside the clients-turned-project-managers, the Leith-based architects unified the home's fragmented rear elevation and introduced light-touch interventions to the ground floor to support contemporary family life. In contrast to its charming pink frontage, the back of Whitberry reveals a curious arrangement, a patchwork of historic and somewhat haphazard additions characterized by reddish sandstone and brickwork, each a record of the masonry techniques of its respective eras. The arbitrary nature of these successive add-ons had resulted in a difficult, cellular interior layout, requiring the family to pass through several rooms to reach the garden.

This project involved alterations and additions to one of a row of 6 identical Victorian terrace houses, which have a cross stair between the two original bedrooms on the upper level. The cross stair typology makes opening up the front two rooms on the lower level to form a large living and dining space more difficult, so it was decided instead to create more living space in a new rear extension. The former rear extension, containing the kitchen and laundry had a poor connection to the rear courtyard and was demolished to make way for a new extension, which also included a new bedroom on the upper level.

Originally completed in the 1980s, the Lapland Central Hospital was designed by one of Finland's most renowned hospital architects, Reino Koivula. The extensions double the current premises of the hospital, including e.g., emergency outpatient clinic, observation ward, operation rooms, psychiatric wards, and facilities for several supporting functions. The extensions create conditions for extensive operations synergy, transforming the hospital campus into a more integrated and efficient whole.

The project involved the renovation with extension of a secondary dwelling in the residential suburb of Ascona. The district in question is located close to the lake and is characterised by detached residential buildings surrounded by vast, lush green spaces. Originally, it was a single-family dwelling organised on two levels with a one-storey secondary volume attached to the building, which included storage rooms and a car park. A quite inconvenient feature of the old building was that the two levels were not connected internally, but one always had to go outside to move from one floor to the other. Initially, the plan was to build a multi-family building, but since both the market, the investment required, and the urban structure hardly lent themselves to a large volume, we turned to a radical and complete renovation of the old house. The intervention consisted of reorganizing and extending the living spaces, regularizing the volumetry and fragmenting the architectural volumes, in such a way as to distinguish the various bodies, built at different times, both in terms of genesis and function.

The project involved the renovation and extension of a secondary residence located on the residential outskirts of Ascona, a small village in the Locarno region. The neighborhood, surrounded by vegetation and characterized by independent buildings with large green spaces, is located near the lake, offering a unique naturalistic context, overlooking one of the oldest golf courses in Switzerland. The original building was a single-family house organized on one floor with tiny spaces, two bedrooms with separate external entrances, all unfortunately in a precarious state of maintenance. Volumetrically, it was unbalanced and clearly assembled volume after volume with addition after addition, without any clear planimetric intentions or even less defined spatial concepts. A patchwork situation that, in consideration of the client's requests, the regulations, and other aspects, such as the flood hazard zone of Lake Maggiore, led to a radical and general intervention.

The neo-Gothic cathedral in Linz is one of the largest church buildings in Austria and was constructed between 1865 and 1924. In 2024, the diocese celebrated the cathedral's hundredth anniversary. However, Catholic communities face challenges: membership numbers are declining, and the church's societal relevance is decreasing. While many congregations respond with budget cuts or the sale of sacred spaces, the Archdiocese of Linz embraces innovation and openness.

A bespoke garden studio for a growing family in South London, KIM-oflage by Delve Architects provides a colourful space for sleep, work, painting and relaxing. Homeowners Kit and Imogen had loved working with Delve Architects on a timber-clad extension to their Victorian terrace home in Nunhead in 2018. However, with a growing family, their choice was either to move or solve their need for more space in a different way.

Rechristened Sara Weill-Raynal as a tribute to the Parisian doctor and Socialist activist of that name, the former Belleville nursing home in the 20th arrondissement welcomed its new residents on 17 May after a five-year refurbishment programme. Revelations about living conditions in certain nursing home have made elderly care into a burning issue. In this troubled context, the refurbishment of the Sara Weill-Raynal facility by Avenier Cornejo offers spatial responses that improve the lives of both residents and care staff. The renovation is one of the construction and restructuring initiatives carried out by the Centre d'Action Sociale de la Ville de Paris (CASVP) whose aim is to improve the quality of care facilities across Paris.

Nova Ponente, a small town in the province of Bolzano, sits nestled among the mountains at an altitude of 1,300 metres above sea level. Home to around 4,000 people, it is also where our client, the protagonist of this story, was born and raised—at BS Hof, the family farmstead, surrounded by animals and nature. As she grew older, the need for a space of her own, where she could live with her future family, became clear. Yet, the desire to remain connected to this place, to continue being part of the farm's daily life, was the foundation upon which this project was built.
