Beginning in 2019, Snøhetta, in collaboration with Christener Architects, Schuler Shook, BSI Constructors, and Kirkegaard, led the expansion and modernization of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra's historic performance space, Powell Hall. To ring in the hall's centennial in 2025, the organization embarked on an ambitious 64,000-square-foot expansion with Snøhetta as design architect and landscape architect. The project will allow the concert hall to be more fully accessible and open to the community, creating a facility that supports and nurtures the creative process from idea to performance.

The historic building of the Imperial Spa, completed in 1895, was remarkable in its time for both its architecture and spa technologies. In the second half of the 19th century, groundbreaking inventions were created. Thomas Alva Edison invented the light bulb, Nikola Tesla developed the induction motor, Alexander Bell built the telephone, Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler introduced the first internal combustion engine car, and Henri Giffard designed a steerable airship. During the same era, Jules Verne wrote the novel From the Earth to the Moon, and Claude Monet painted the iconic Impression, Sunrise.

From provisional tent to permanent concert club: the new Kuppel Basel is an impressive venue for the music scene. Basel-based Vécsey Schmidt Architekt:innen built a permanent concert venue for the city's pop music scene – right in the middle of an idyllic park on the edge of the city center. The shape of the Kuppel Basel refers to a temporary dome tent from 1988 that stood on the same location, and which was known far and wide for the concerts that were held there. The new, permanent institution will help to promote upcoming bands and provide a venue for concerts and parties. An unconventional piece of architecture, that is focussed entirely on its interior and at the same time – together with a neighboring extension building – solves urban planning questions. Club scene concerts are often held in dark basements or abandoned industrial estates, where they don't bother anybody. Not so in Basel: here pop culture has now acquired a jewel, located right in the middle of a park between the zoo and the city center. Any passer-by who does not know about the function of the solitary octagonal building with its unusual vaulted structure might mistake it for some sort of pavilion – if it weren't so hermetically sealed. Thanks to sophisticated soundproofing measures, the beats inside can be cranked up, while on the outside people going for a stroll or neighbors sleeping with open windows remain undisturbed.

Construction reasons. The Granary Concert Hall project is located in Jining City, Shandong Province, Sushui Dengxiangu art town, close to Dengxiangu Art Granary. The granary is a rectangular courtyard surrounded by several red tile stone houses, the previous function is used to preserve grain. Grain silo function after the abandonment of the cultural industry upgraded to become such as Art Granary. After nearly a decade of careful grinding, art granary has developed into a national village revitalization demonstration base. With the implementation and promotion of the national rural revitalization strategy, the internal space of the original granary transformation can no longer meet the increasing functional needs, so it is ready to build a new multi-functional building in the west side of the granary combined with the village, to meet the large-span space of 300-400 people.

The shape of the hall was inspired by the area’s former mining tradition. Alexander von Humboldt, the famous German naturalist and explorer, even worked here as a master miner before he later became famous for his global expeditions. The room is shaped by 33 large granite “splinters” which direct the sound and ensure perfect acoustics.

The concert hall represents the heart of the urban development to revitalize the new centre of Blaibach. It is located next to the new community centre and complements the space of a new village square that was realized with funds of the state urban development support. The concert hall is a solitaire of concrete with an inclination above the slope in the village centre following the topography and linking with its granite facade to the stone carver tradition of Bailbach. The monolithic tilted building opens itself to the visitors at the new village square and guides them by a staircase to the foyer below the surface. The foyer provides not only the functional areas like wardrobe, sanitary rooms and bar, but also leads the visitor excitingly around the auditorium into the inner concert hall.

The long ironstone building is quite grand for a stable; for a theatre, on the other hand, it is compact and intimate. Designing a festival theatre required a distilled response, focused on the unity of stage and auditorium: there was no scope for a fly-tower, nor for a foyer with a grand stair. Every addition or adjustment within the auditorium had to be judged on its merits, to work in relation to the ironstone walls, and the doors and windows that pepper them.

BESIX and the Andermatt Swiss Alps development is transforming the traditional Swiss Alpine village of Andermatt into one of the world’s finest year-round destinations; boasting some of the best alpine and off-piste skiing facilities in Europe and fast becoming one of Switzerland’s largest resorts. Andermatt is a mountain village and municipality in the canton of Uri in Switzerland. At an altitude of 1437 meters above sea level, Andermatt is located at the centre of the Saint-Gotthard Massif and the historical centre cross of north-south and east-west traverses of Switzerland. In the early 2000s, after a period of decline, Andermatt started growing again as a valid alternative to the famous ski resort destinations such as St Moritz and Gstaad. This new beginning brought in the area the need for new facilities to remark its role of new attraction pole in Swiss tourism.

The first built component of the massive Rockefeller Center, the Music Hall has been the world’s largest indoor theater for over eighty years. With its elegant Art Deco interiors and complex stage machinery, the theater defied tradition to set a new standard for modern entertainment venues that remains to this day.

One of the most anticipated cultural venues in Copenhagen, the 35,000 m2 Royal Arena, opened with four sold out concerts by Metallica. Specially designed for concerts and international level sporting events, this new venue combines two key ambitions: to create an attractive and highly flexible multi-purpose arena that can attract spectators locally as well as internationally, while ensuring that the building’s presence will be a catalyzer for growth for the entire district as well as Copenhagen. With a podium that offers different public areas for social meetings and daily activities with a warm timber façade allowing spectators to look out and the curious to look in, the arena is designed to catalyse urban life, thereby adding value and fitting into the surrounding neighbourhood.

The design for the William M. Lowman Concert Hall grew from the desire of the client to create a concert hall worthy of the talents of the students at the school, Idyllwild Arts—one of the country’s top three High Schools for the Arts. The student body draws from dozens of countries and students go on to every major orchestra, school and program in the world. Sander Architects proposed a site at the heart of campus to repurpose an unsightly parking lot, thereby creating a central campus quad and gathering space for the school community.

The project is located at the edge of the campus where the Baebong Mountain starts in Seoul, Korea. The project is enclosed by small pond and outdoor stage, in the front, and Baebong Mountain, in the back, which make the location a great spot to overlook the whole campus of University of Seoul. Before the project, the location was used for recycling disposal plant. The project was initiated with the mindset of minimizing the damage to the mountain and green space of the city so that the planning was limited within the boundary of existing facility.

Both exterior and interior can change their atmosphere according to the two different functions as well as acoustics. In other words, this architecture has a “double face”. Also the client wanted use wood for the interior design to enhance the image of the shop, since Hokkaido is a leading forestry area.
