In the center of Nantes, the transformation of the former army barracks known as the Caserne Mellinet reflects contemporary urban challenges. Situated at the entrance of this neighborhood composed of six hamlets, the flats completed by Ramdam and Palast are part of the Chapus hamlet. This hamlet is the transitional urban feature linking the Saint-Donatien neighborhood and the heart of the barracks complex. Whilst respecting the intention of urban planners to create a coherent identity between the two areas, the project is first and foremost part of a powerful construction ambition of a wooden structure and mineral façades composed of plastered hempcrete.

After the pandemic, the elderly parents and their daughters, previously living in southern and northern Taiwan, began considering future care needs and decided to live together in Taipei. Located in a 40-year-old public housing complex, this 72-sqm apartment navigates two opposing conditions: the tranquil greenery of the Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab to the south, and the bustle of a major commercial boulevard to the north. The low ceilings and original layout with three small bedrooms intensified the narrow proportions and the sense of enclosure. Moreover, iron window grilles and fixed AC units obstructed the openings, severely compromising natural light and ventilation.

Located in São Paulo, the Cartola Apartment was designed to be a cozy urban retreat for a couple residing in the state´s interior but working part of the week in the capital. The 65 m² property underwent extensive renovations, including demolition of masonry, new plumbing and electrical installations, new finishes, lighting, carpentry, and furniture. The project's premise was to adapt the apartment's configuration to a more flexible and contemporary lifestyle by integrating the living room and kitchen, increasing the number of bathrooms, and incorporating a remote work desk. Despite its compact size, the apartment's modular and rational layout allowed these interventions to be accommodated efficiently, ensuring spaces with comfortable proportions and dimensions suitable for the new intended uses.

It sits in a row of four to five-story residential buildings, most of which were built in the early 20th century.
The team behind 103 Grand Street has unveiled the new multi-family building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Brooklyn-based architecture and design firm, Of Possible, 103 Grand is a three-unit 7,300 square foot development consisting of two duplexes and a triplex. Constructed by Rise Development, the project is located in the heart of Williamsburg and marries iconic Williamsburg loft-style living with the desirability of outdoor space, typically found only in garden-level apartments.

In a city known for single-family homes nested in endless urban sprawl, multifamily living in Los Angeles is increasingly becoming the norm. One challenge facing apartment living is how to replicate the spatial goals associated with single-family living: large open spaces, pets, trees, and the ability to creatively modify your own living space.

As great stories go, this is one to keep for the records. As a young couple, moving between countries and business clients as one moves between hot chocolate choices, was looking for a place to live in Lisbon, there were several priorities which they felt should be met: spatious, light-filled, not too complex or technically challenging to change/renovate, and something which felt just right for both of them and their child. Now, something which feels right is a common principle when house hunting: you may see 20 prospective houses in one day that seem to fit the briefing, but there’s always something missing you cannot truly pinpoint. What no one was waiting, or hoping for, was that you could find something truly special on a street in Lisbon which most Portuguese children grew up seeing on TV (the official Prime Minister Office “sits” proudly and grandly just opposite the building). So, street-wise it was a win-win situation in terms of a prime location, but there was a setback.

"Vala" is a response to a fundamental question: How can we create a place for collective living and conscious presence within today's dense and vertical urban fabric? The project, centered on the construction of 50 residential units within a single volume, brings human density into an integrated structure where social interactions and a sense of belonging to the neighborhood can emerge.

The developer Solon Eiendom AS is behind the development of this new district in Ski, which is regulated by Code Arkitekter/Civitas and which totals over 400 apartments, located in close proximity to the new train hub at Ski station on the Follo line. A-lab is one of the offices that was invited to design one of four point buildings that surround the listed old Magasin buildings on the site that was formerly a military area and the new "Urban villas" homes. The point buildings are spread out to the southwest in beautiful outdoor areas designed by Dronninga Landskap. The other point buildings are designed by the architectural offices Reilulf Ramstad, R21, and Code.

The main concept of this project is "Continuity," which is formed from the external body and continues to the interior. The nature of this project is not formed just from the extension of a unique form but from the multiplication of a basic element in architecture, which is the "wall." These thick and pure walls are made from the vertical arrangement of Basalt stone ingots that form the project from the entrance to the roof garden and Project skyline, and eventually the whole body. These walls are cut in specific borders of the combination of the facade layers, architectural plan, and structural construction.
