The New York Times Headquarters Building at 40th Street and 8th Avenue in New York City incorporates 1,000,000 linear feet of ALPHATUBE® in front of a clear glass curtain wall. The ALPHATUBE® is ceramic sunscreen which is used in front of windows and curtain wall. The attachment system is very similar to terracotta baguettes, with metal rods running through the tubes and gaskets and closure brackets on each end.
Like Shildan's terracotta baguettes, ALPHATUBE® is a glazed ceramic tube which is also used as a sunscreen. Extruded vertically in twenty (20) foot lengths, it is available in many different shapes, sizes, and colors.
Colors & Finishes
The ALPHATUBE® is available in a range of colors. The colors are created by coating the white body of the ALPHATUBE® with different color glazing. The different thickness of the glazing, as well as the color, will change the reflectivity of the tubes. The standard colors are: White, Grey, Blue Grey, Green Grey, Yellow, and Pink
Many custom colors are also available upon request. Colors can match or closely approximate terra cotta tile colors where this is required. A glossy or matte finish is available.
ALPHATUBE® is available in many different shapes and sizes. We are continually releasing new shapes, so please call or send us an email for current availability. Below is just an example of a few of the recent creations.
