Winter Stations is an annual public art event where designers and students create temporary installations that activate the waterfront during winter. Solair was conceived by a team from Toronto Metropolitan University as a pavilion-like structure exploring the interplay of light, wind, and reflection along Lake Ontario’s edge. The installation was on view over a six-week exhibition period, inviting visitors to engage with shifting visual and sensory effects from dawn to dusk.

Garnica’s Duraply® supported Solair’s demanding outdoor performance requirements. The plywood’s enhanced resistance to moisture, fungi, and extreme weather ensured the installation maintained structural integrity despite freezing temperatures, wind, and snow. Lightweight yet robust, Duraply® allowed the team to assemble and disassemble the piece with ease while preserving smooth, high-quality surfaces essential to the installation’s artistic expression.
