Garnica is a global leader in the production of innovative and high-quality plywood, working with wood from sustainable and renewable sources to preserve ecological balance. Fire-rated plywood from Garnica, supplied in Australia under the Matilda range, was used in the Penguin Parade Visitor Centre, a new public building located on Phillip Island, Australia.
The Penguin Parade Visitor Centre is a major civic and tourism project designed to replace outdated facilities and elevate the visitor experience at one of Australia’s most visited natural attractions. Designed by Terroir, the building is embedded into the landscape and defined by generous, light-filled interiors that respond to the coastal environment while meeting strict regulatory and durability requirements for high-traffic public use.
Garnica’s fire-rated plywood was specified across more than 3,000 square meters of interior wall and ceiling surfaces. The panels provide certified fire performance through a treatment applied throughout the board, allowing the material to retain a natural wood appearance while complying with Australian fire codes. The result is a warm, cohesive interior finish that supports the project’s safety, sustainability, and long-term performance goals.
