Crystal Glaze Ceramic Surfaces
The Smalto series from AGROB BUCHTAL is based on an in-depth exploration of crystal glaze techniques and their application to contemporary ceramic surfaces. The collection draws from an extensive archive of glaze samples developed by Karl Weber, whose long-term research focused on the interaction between raw material compositions and firing curves to achieve complex chromatic effects.
Concept
The selected glaze patterns were translated from handcrafted samples into an industrial production process. This approach combines traditional ceramic craftsmanship with contemporary manufacturing technologies, allowing for consistent quality while preserving the visual depth and variability characteristic of crystal glazes.
The resulting surfaces are defined by intense coloration and distinctive ceramic structures, producing nuanced and non-repetitive patterns. Smalto is suitable for use in both residential and public contexts, where material expression and surface depth play a central architectural role.
6 colors – each color consists of approx. 75 individually designed tiles. Vibrant glaze effects alternate with subtle variations to create a distinctive tile pattern.
