Completed in spring 2025, the NEON Experience Centre at Battersea Power Station establishes a permanent venue for immersive exhibitions in London. Located on Circus Road East, adjacent to the historic power station complex, the building positions itself as a contemporary counterpart to its industrial context through a distinctly articulated envelope.
Facade Concept and Materiality
The architectural identity of the building is defined by its façade, designed by Expo Pavilion Group (EPG | UAU-Studio) and realized using polycarbonate solid wall panels by Rodeca. The façade is composed of translucent, frosted opal panels measuring up to 18 meters in length, installed as a ventilated rainscreen system in front of the primary structure.
Arranged in a wave-like configuration, the panels introduce depth and modulation to the building envelope while maintaining a consistent material language. The translucency of the polycarbonate allows the façade to function as a mediating layer between interior and exterior, balancing opacity and light transmission.
An integrated lighting system enables the façade to operate as a large-scale display surface, supporting exhibition-specific visuals and contributing to the building’s presence within the urban context. The lighting strategy reinforces the temporary and changing nature of the exhibitions while remaining embedded within a permanent architectural framework.
Through its material choice and façade articulation, the NEON Experience Centre presents a restrained yet expressive architectural response that aligns immersive content with contemporary façade design.
