More about this product

Sto is a global manufacturer of facade systems and external wall insulation solutions for new construction and renovation projects. StoRend Classic flush-mounted plaster and StoSignature Fine 40 were used to adaptively reuse and extend the former industrial building into Trofa Town Hall, located in Trofa, Portugal.

The project converted a derelict grain processing plant into a functional civic centre, integrating part of the original building into a contemporary ensemble. Designed by NOARQ, the redevelopment includes five new black-brick volumes surrounding the renovated original, creating a dialogue between old and new. The design enhances urban regeneration, provides clear functional zoning for municipal services, and strengthens public engagement with the town hall.

Trofa town hall

Sto products were applied to ensure long-term performance and refined aesthetics. StoRend Classic was used on the original building’s walls to restore and strengthen them with a flexible, cement-free plaster system resistant to cracking. StoSignature Fine 40 with a glazed coating was applied to create a fine-grained grey surface contrasting with dark brick volumes. Together, these systems highlight material contrasts, emphasise architectural features such as recessed window frames, and support the building’s energy-efficient and resilient performance.
