Glazing Vision is a manufacturer of architectural glass skylights engineered to enhance spaces through natural light and minimalist design. Free Standing Skybox Skylights from Glazing Vision were used in the Music Box penthouses, a mixed‑use building project in London, United Kingdom, providing access to private rooftop terraces and enhancing panoramic city views.
The Music Box development, designed by SPPARC Architecture, is a striking contemporary building located on Union Street in London’s vibrant Southbank area. The project includes 41 luxury apartments and serves as the flagship headquarters of the London Centre for Contemporary Music, integrating cultural, residential, and educational functions within its glass‑dominated form. The seven duplex penthouses occupy the upper floors, each featuring outdoor living spaces that capitalize on spectacular views of the city skyline.

A key design objective was to maximize natural daylight throughout the upper residential levels while creating seamless transitions between interior living areas and outdoor roof terraces. The architectural concept reflects musical inspiration in its geometry and detailing, with expressive vertical fins and large glazed façades reinforcing a relationship to the surrounding urban context.
For each of the seven penthouse units, bespoke Free Standing Skybox Skylights from Glazing Vision were precision-engineered to unlock rooftop terrace access and extend usable living space. These skylights were custom‑designed to meet the unique dimensions of each roof terrace and pre‑assembled for efficient installation. With their thermally broken framework and solar control glazing, the skylights provide efficient performance while maintaining high levels of daylight transmission. The sleek aluminum framework and hidden fixings create a refined architectural expression that complements the overall design language of the penthouse suites.

The operational design of the Free Standing Skybox Skylights enables practical access from the interior. At the touch of a button, the sliding roof retracts to provide a generous opening, eliminating the need for residents to duck under low headroom. Quiet and secure, the system includes solid‑state controls with battery backup and a manual override. Flush glazed edges assist with water runoff and ease of maintenance, making the rooflights both functional and visually elegant. The result is a dramatic extension of the living space, where residents can enjoy rooftop entertaining, abundant daylight, and uninterrupted views of London’s skyline.
