Elval Colour manufactures coating solutions for sustainable building envelopes and materials. The National Observatory of Cyprus, located in Agriadia, Limassol, incorporates Fire Retardant Panels - etalbond FR in a Mirror-Anodized finish for its exterior shell. Designed by Kyriakos Tsolakis Architects, the project serves as a new scientific and educational hub for astronomical observation, combining advanced technology with integration into the natural environment.
The design creates a visual and spatial link between the building and its environment. The architectural firm aimed to make the building disappear into the landscape by using reflective etalbond® FR panels that mirror the sky above. Additionally, the use of natural materials, such as wood, stone, and granite in its interior, emphasizes the observatory’s connection with its surroundings. The architecture seeks to enhance the experience of astronomical observation and human connection with the universe.

The fire-retardant etalbond® FR panels ensure the building’s safety and performance under demanding conditions while offering exceptional flatness, durability, and reflectivity. Their mirrored finish extends the landscape onto the façade, emphasizing continuity between sky and ground.
