Jonite offers contemporary engineered stonework solutions that merge natural aesthetics with high-performance functionality for modern architectural and landscape designs. Jonite's sump covers were included in the design of the TarraWarra Museum of Art: Eva and Marc Besen Centre in Victoria, Australia.
Located in the Yarra Valley, the TarraWarra Museum of Art: Eva and Marc Besen Centre expands one of Australia’s leading cultural institutions. Designed by Oculus, the project integrates architecture and landscape to create a setting that honors the natural environment and the museum’s artistic legacy. Native plantings, soft building forms, and fluid transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces define the design approach, fostering reflection and engagement within the landscape.
As part of the site infrastructure, Jonite supplied custom sump covers in a warm, natural tone to coordinate with the aggregate-textured courtyard and pathway surfaces. The minimalist slot pattern complements the architecture, ensuring that the drainage system integrates unobtrusively into the museum’s contemplative environment.
Although visually discreet, the covers are engineered for durability and performance, with high slip resistance, strength, and weathering resistance. Their use across outdoor circulation areas provides efficient drainage without compromising the visual calm of the site. The system demonstrates how infrastructure can support both functional and design priorities in cultural settings.
