Stonetech is a Greek company specializing in the quarrying, processing, and trading of natural stones, including marble and other engineered surfaces.
Natural stone from Stonetech was applied throughout the JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa, located in Marathi, Chania, Crete, Greece. Designed by block722 architects with landscape design by doxiadis+, the large-scale hospitality project comprises a 13,600 m² built area within a 59,700 m² plot on the hillside of Souda Bay in northern Crete.
The resort’s architectural strategy references the topography and textures of the Cretan landscape, using a restrained and material-driven palette. Stone was selected to provide continuity between interior and exterior spaces, with finishes and formats chosen to meet the performance, maintenance, and aesthetic requirements across circulation, guest areas, and amenity zones.
Stonetech supplied and installed the project’s marble and limestone components, contributing to the material continuity of interior and exterior spaces. A range of local and imported stones was selected for their tonal balance, surface performance, and ability to express craftsmanship at scale.
Ionian Terrazzo was used extensively for interior and exterior flooring. Sinai Pearl was applied to floors, bathroom cladding, and vanities, as well as for the fluted wall and column cladding in the spa. In reception and high-contact areas, Travertino Light formed curved tile elements and wall cladding. Emperador Light was specified for the spa reception desk. Pocahontas marble was applied to the solid base of the reception desk and library furnishings.
In bar and restaurant zones, handmade hammered and chiseled Vratsa limestone was used for solid tops and bar cladding in a brushed and sandblasted finishes. Crema Catalana received a bespoke handmade finish for a solid bar top and a brushed finish for the lobby bar, and a solid island.
Through close coordination with the design team, Stonetech delivered a coherent stone application strategy across the 13,600 m² development, supporting the project's vision of endless luxury grounded in place, craft, and material performance.
