Schindler has been engineering smart, sustainable mobility since 1874, keeping cities connected and people moving.
The Schindler PORT destination-control system was installed in the historic Chamber of Commerce Building, a 1917 Art Deco office building in downtown Pittsburgh, USA.
The Chamber of Commerce Building, dating back to 1917, is an iconic example of Art Deco architecture that continues to serve modern office tenants. As part of a multi-phase modernization, Schindler upgraded all seven existing elevators, maintaining continuous service during installation. The goal was to preserve the building’s historic integrity while enhancing vertical mobility, security, and efficiency.
Schindler installed its energy-efficient PORT processor—already the lowest-consumption in its class—on each of the building’s elevators. This intelligent destination-dispatch system reduced wait and travel times while improving access control. Because the installation followed a phased approach, one elevator could remain operational while others were upgraded, minimizing disruption.
