Schenker Storen develops and produces a wide range of sun and weather protection products for both indoor and outdoor areas. Located on the roof of an existing industrial hall, the K118 is a five-storey building created relying on the reuse of building materials. Showcasing high standards for circular construction, the project reused Schenker Storen composite venetian blinds.
The architectural firm baubüro in situ, known for its pioneering work in the reuse field, worked with the client and specialist planners to implement an innovative utilisation concept for living and working. Schenker Storen contributed to the project's sustainable objectives with a resource-saving solar shading system, tailored to the technical and aesthetic requirements of the K 118. Around 70 reused composite venetian blinds from the former ‘Orion’ office building in Zurich-West were used. These blinds were dismantled, cleaned, re-labelled, checked, and integrated into the new façade concept in a complex process.

Reusing these blinds led to CO₂ savings of around 500 tonnes - a significant contribution to reducing grey energy in the construction industry. In addition, found windows, façade components, insulation materials, and steel beams were used. Structured BIM planning and digital resource platforms were used to efficiently organise the complex planning process.
