Tejas Borja is a worldwide leader in the production and distribution of ceramic roof tiles. Sourcing clay from Mediterranean quarries for over five decades, their products combine tradition, research and leading design for seamless integration into contemporary projects with cutting-edge technology.
The old La Baronda ceramic factory is an industrial building from early XX century in Espulgues de Llobregat, restored as a city heritage with its historical shape and original layout. Considered the first design-oriented business park in Catalunya, Espulgues Future Factory incorporates also a museum, meeting rooms, restaurants and offices.

The building’s roof has been rehabilitated by Teules S.L. A surface of 2800 m2, it was re-clad with Alicantina Fosca ceramic tiles from Tejas Borja, in a tone that adjusts specifically to the requirements of the project language.
In a city with such deep ceramic roots, Espai Baronda recovers an emblematic staple of its architecture and its culture, abandoned for over two decades.

The rehabilitation of the building answers to criteria of absolute respect to the original materials and shape of the building, thus resulting in a space clad in a double perforated skin on the east and west facades, allowing for formal respect for the heritage of the site and a thermal buffer in between the layers, where most infrastructure and machinery have been carefully inserted.
