More about this product

A-Light is a manufacturer of high-performance architectural luminaires designed to elevate contemporary spaces with visual precision and minimal forms.

A-Light’s D3 and D5 Accolade luminaires were specified for the Fashion Institute of Technology A-Labs Renovation, located in New York City, USA. The project involved a 49,000 sq.ft. interior renovation led by SHoP Architects and Focus Lighting, transforming kitchen and classroom spaces into advanced academic and administrative environments.

undefined

The renovation introduced 15 state-of-the-art laboratory and teaching spaces within the Institute’s historic campus. To enhance both circulation and spatial clarity, A-Light’s D3 surface linear fixtures were installed prominently along hallways and within learning environments.

In corridor ceilings, 4 ft and 8 ft modules were arranged perpendicularly, with some mounted end-to-end to create continuous seams of light. In classrooms, the D3 luminaires were configured in long linear rows above lab stations and art equipment, suspended between acoustic ceiling panels and aligned flush to produce a recessed effect.

A-Light’s D5 recessed linear fixtures were used in select locations where integration with gypsum ceilings was required. Together, both luminaire types provide balanced, glare-controlled illumination, emphasizing visual clarity and architectural rhythm. The lighting strategy reflects the project’s educational purpose, merging utility, aesthetics, and acoustical sensitivity across all learning environments.
