Interior Lighting in San Francisco Airport | A-Light

A-Light is a manufacturer of high-performance architectural luminaires designed to elevate contemporary spaces with visual precision and minimal forms.

A-Light’s Accolade series was used to illuminate key areas within the San Francisco Airport Consolidated Administration Campus, located in San Francisco, California, USA. Designed by Perkins & Will in collaboration with Mark Cavagnero Associates, the 135,000 sq.ft. facility unifies airport business units into one centralized campus.

One of the architectural highlights of the four-story building is a sculptural, asymmetrical stair tower that serves as a dramatic vertical circulation core. Lighting designer Janet S. Nolan of JS Nolan + Associates Lighting Design, was tasked with both illuminating and accentuating this central feature.

Working closely with A-Light’s Design Assist team, she developed a custom configuration using the Accolade D5 recessed linear fixture to follow the unique geometry of the staircase. The 3.5" wide fixture delivers high-performance direct light with a HE Tech™ lens, creating continuous lines of light that enhance the structure’s sculptural effect.

A-Light’s lighting solutions extend beyond the stairwell into several spaces throughout the campus. Accolade D3 surface-mount luminaires act as perimeter wall grazers in meeting rooms and offices, contributing to both vertical surface lighting and ambient illumination. In boardrooms and employee lounges, Accolade D2 pendants with both uplight and downlight provide balanced, glare-free lighting. Each fixture is carefully integrated into the architecture to support visual comfort and continuity across the interior environment.
