The Splash Lab redefines restroom experiences globally through innovative, sustainable, and modular bathroom solutions, blending premium materials and advanced automation to enhance spaces and lives.
Angelenos have long hidden their best treasures behind unassuming, single-story façades, and nowhere is this more true than in West Adams, where quiet streets mask a burgeoning creative hub. Lacuna Space, a new events venue and creative hub by multidisciplinary artist Dre Shapiro of Dre Design, transforms a warehouse with vaulted ceilings. Shapiro preserves the narrow street entry, leading visitors through a series of intriguing cutouts into the expansive space, complete with an open kitchen and a hidden back garden.
The Brief
Shapiro, whose minimalist and abstract art roots influence her boutique design firm, specializes in organic modern interiors and also serves as the lead curator at Lacuna. Her vision for the space, defined by "lacuna" (meaning “unfilled space”), blends emptiness with warmth, creating an inviting atmosphere that is meticulously designed down to the smallest detail—even the wall sockets.
The restroom, or "bathhouse," was a central focus for Shapiro, ensuring it followed the same design rigor. Styled to evoke communal ritual and connection, the bathhouse is a gender-neutral space with natural light and outdoor access. The trough sink, placed at the heart of the room, serves as a true conversation piece, fostering the sense of connection that defines a truly exceptional experience.

The Solution
Shapiro was initially drawn to The Splash Lab in search of a refined sensor faucet, finding most on the market too bulky for her project. The TSL.882 Radius Sensor Faucet caught her eye with its slim design, high-quality fabrication, and contemporary colors. During a visit to the TSL showroom, she was inspired by the flexibility of finishes offered through solid surface, leading her to adapt the Monolith Basin System to create the sink she envisioned.
Dre’s original planar concept seamlessly transitioned from steel to solid surface, thanks to the superior bonding properties of the material. As a bridge between standardization and customization, the Monolith series brought her bold design to life. The updated design, specified in Corian Sandstone, mimics the organic complexity of travertine stone without the maintenance concerns. The sink’s crowning feature is an integrated planter box, using the abundant sunlight and water-rich environment to grow a lush grass backsplash. Matte black sensor faucets were chosen to complement the space’s finishes and contrast with the biophilic design, ensuring effortless handwashing through a perfectly balanced faucet projection.
