Mill Finish refers to raw aluminum trims without any applied finish, exhibiting a shiny or mirror-like appearance with visible manufacturing lines.These trims require thorough cleaning, typically with soapy water, before field priming and painting.It's essential to ensure sufficient drying time before applying primer, and to consult the paint manufacturer when selecting a primer suitable for aluminum.Mill Finish trims should not be left exposed for extended periods to prevent oxidation; they must be covered with appropriate paint or anodized finishes.
Anodized Finishes
Anodizing is an electrochemical process that deposits an oxide film on aluminum trims, enhancing durability and corrosion resistance.
- Clear Anodized Finish: This standard finish for exterior trims creates a thicker, harder oxide layer, providing excellent durability and resistance to most forms of corrosion.
- Color Anodizing: Available in gold, black, and bronze (light, medium, and dark) shades, color anodized finishes offer aesthetic customization.However, variations can occur between pieces due to the nature of the anodizing process. Kynar® Paint Finish
Kynar® is a 70% fluoropolymer resin-based, two-coat baked-on paint offering high durability and resistance to chalking, ultraviolet deterioration, chemicals, salt spray, and industrial pollutants.Recommended for trims in harsh environments, including coastal areas, Kynar® finishes are available in custom colors. Some finishes may require a Kynar® XL topcoat due to the exotic nature of the color.This finish meets or exceeds AAMA 605.2 specifications.
Powder-Coated Paint Finish
Flannery offers powder-coated paint finishes that can match any paint manufacturer's color or custom samples.Applied after a chem-film finish and factory primer, these finishes meet or exceed the dry film thickness of 1.2 mil as specified in AAMA 2605 SEC 4.3.
