Bendheim's Houdini™ Privacy Glass was used in a high-end marketing suite on the 12th floor at 1 South Wacker, a luxury office tower in Chicago. Designed by architectural firm Eastlake Studio, the concept was to create a work environment that merges glamor with functionality that brings in natural light.
Design Challenge
A variety of materials and elements were used in this project to bring the outside in, a key aspect for the design was to maximise the use of natural light. Approximately 1,000 square feet of laminated Houdini™ glass from Bendheim was used for office partitions and other applications. The result is an interior flooded with natural light.
The reason for choosing Houdini™ glass was due to its unique blur effect. Consisting of vertical flutes and horizontal striation, unique dynamic visual is created. The glass filters light in, with having a visual effect that lets you see the foreground but blurs out the background.
Houdini™ Glass
Houdini™ glass features a precision-rolled micro-fluted pattern to transmit maximum daylight through the glass whilest still providing a high level of visual privacy. The name refers to the remarkable visual effect it creates, whereby people and objects seem to disappear behind it even as light continues to shine through. In addition to diffusing light, Houdini™ reduces glare and minimizes reflections.
Easily customize Houdini™ glass by combining an unlimited range of color interlayers, prints, and other textured and etched glass varieties to create the desired effect. The glass can also be laminated or back-painted to mirror for wall cladding applications.
