Sky Lagoon is a thermal and wellness oasis with an infinity pool where "sea and sky unite" on the outskirts of Kópavogur, Iceland. The design of the facility had to blend in with the breathtaking landscape.
The peat wall (Klömbruhleðsla) and the turf house (Torfbæir) form the outer frame. The wall was built traditionally from heavy marsh turf and peat processed into tiles. To carry this overall concept into the interior, and keep the demands of comfort, durability, and ease of cleaning; the architects made the decision to use Pfleiderer’s Duropal HPL Compact for the reception and changing rooms.
Material Properties
The compact laminate can be used without additional substrate material. Duropal HPL Compact is moisture-resistant and low-swelling, as well as being particularly impact-resistant and easy to clean. In addition, the surface is antimicrobial.
In terms of décor, the designers opted for Natural Chalet Oak in the Rustic surface texture. Thanks to its natural-rustic finish in oak it continues the overall concept of the Sky Lagoon to the interior seamlessly.
