More about this product

Summit Street is a major roadway in Toledo, Ohio that runs parallel to a large portion of the Maumee River in the city's center. The road is undergoing a $10.5M renovation plan from the Toledo City Council to improve its public amenities, accessibility, and 150-year-old waterline. Summit Street will offer pedestrians better sidewalks, increased benches and parking spaces, new lighting, and more vegetation throughout. An art installation by the Arts Commission will also be installed on Summit Street between Adams and Madison streets.

Overall, this project is part of the Toledo City Council's efforts to advance the street's aesthetics and functionality as one of the largest and most densely occupied roads in Toledo. As part of the renovation, MetalTech's weathering steel panels were used for landscape edging of the large street islands. The characteristic orange-brown color of the weathering steel panels complements the vegetation while providing structural support for the expansive grass and trees planted in the area.

Landscape Edging | MetalTech

Weathering Steel

MetalTech's weathering steel has high tensile strength, and in spite of its rusted appearance, it is more resistant to corrosion than standard forms of carbon steel. This durability is crucial for outdoor landscape projects like the Summit Street renovation in which the steel is exposed to damages from the weather and heavy public use.

Weathering steel has become extremely popular in architectural applications for both residential and commercial projects. It is suitable as a siding and roofing material in corrugated, standing seam, and plate cladding systems. At Summit Street, the weathering steel is used in panels to create landscape siding.
