The CA House, located in Spain, is situated on a 16m wide and 30m long rectangular plot of land. CA House is accessible from the North facade and flanked by neighboring structures on every other side. The Grespania Coverlam porcelain tiles are used throughout the house to create a smooth transition between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Design Concept
CA House was designed to fit the maximum occupiable area that local regulations allow, thus the volume of the building responds directly to its site. As a result, CA House looks orderly and compact with straight and clean lines, which is very characteristic of Mediterranean architecture, considering it is located in a coastal area. CA House includes a basement, ground floor, and first floor, measuring 9.60m wide and 19.30m long.
The living room is located on the ground floor, where an exterior porch runs along the south and west facades, creating a covered transition space between interior and exterior. The continuous floor pavements used in all the spaces of the house generate a visual continuity that dilutes the border between indoor and outdoor.
On the first floor, there are three suite bedrooms each with its own private bathroom. The bedrooms are offset from the facade, creating an interior terrace that is open to the outside filled with sunlight.
Coverlam Porcelain Tiles
Grespania's Coverlam porcelain tiles are used on various wall and facade surfaces of the CA House. With the introduction of technology press lamination, today it is possible to produce 300x100cm large format porcelain tiles, with a thickness as thin as 3.5 mm, that maintains the mechanical properties and the aesthetics of porcelain tiles. This way the scope of porcelain uses and applications expands, offering great potential for innovation in the construction and interior design fields.
Coverlam Porcelain Tile Features
- Coverlam is structurally reinforced by means of a glass fiber mesh 0.5 mm thick adhering to the back, endowing it with optimal mechanical strength.
- Available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes.
- Coverlam is considerably easier to cut and handle and notably reduces the logistical costs of packing and transport.
- Coverlam is resistant to bending, UV light, attack by chemicals, wear, fire and frost.
- Coverlam is recyclable and the manufacturing process achieves the highest degree of respect for the environment.
- Due to its reduced thickness – 3.5mm and 5.6mm – Coverlam only weighs 7.8 kg/m2 and 14 kg/m2, respectively. This makes cutting and handling far easier. As a result, Coverlam offers substantial financial savings in projects by enabling faster completion times.
- Coverlam 3.5mm and 5.6mm is produced in 100x300cm rectified pieces and is solid in various formats, created by dividing up the initial piece with an automated cutting system. The 3.5 mm-thick Coverlam models comprise a 3mm-thick porcelain base with a 0.5mm-thick glass fiber mesh attached to the reverse side. As a result, the mechanical strength of the piece is substantially improved.
