Interior Finishes at U.S. Bank Stadium | 3M

In 2013, the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome roof, home of the Minnesota Vikings, collapsed due to heavy snow loads. Throughout a 30-month reconstruction period, a high bar was set for the project's structural and interior design elements. Thus, 3M™ collaborated with the architectural team to create a space that both fans and players would be proud of.

In 2016, the U.S. Bank Stadium opened to the public covering a striking 1.75 million square feet, with impressive features such as a 60% clear roof and the five largest pivoting doors in the world.

Design Concept

One of the primary opportunities for rebuilding the stadium was to improve the fan experience. The achieve this, various 3M™ products were used for a variety of spaces and applications, to ensure durability while recalling the Viking aesthetic of the previous stadium. Some of the most notable implementations of 3M™ products include:

• The 3M™ DI-NOC™ Architectural Finishes in a natural wood grain were used to highlight the location of concession and food stands, making it easy for occupants to locate the various food service areas.
• To emphasize the Viking aesthetic, the 3M™ IJ180 Graphic Films were applied to windows and walls throughout the stadium as graphic design elements which honor Viking players and coaches.
• On the turf, eight mini-suites were made with 3M™ Fasara™ Glass Finishes as partitions to ensure privacy between the spaces while allowing natural light to enter.
