Pure + FreeForm’s Crystal Basecoat is a new technology where a colorfast translucent layer is added on top of raw aluminum before the finishing process takes place. The implementation of a Crystal Basecoat process celebrates the innate glamour of metal’s natural imperfections through luminosity, light diffusion, and beautiful reflectivity. It adds different layers of pearl, ink, and resin to create textures, but the underlying metallic luminescence remains.
With this Crystal Basecoat technology, levels of glint or glow are not only controllable but are a great way to add depth from reflected light in a subtle manner. It can infuse the aluminum with copper or gold pearl hues, warming up the light reflection. This glint only appears with direct light and can be used to identify metallic luminosity against other more matte materials like GFRC or high-performance concrete.
Because each batch of aluminum has a natural variation in its raw color, there is a subtle deviation of depth, but nothing close to anodization or natural metals. Changes in angle of interaction, time of day, and light source mean that metals can be perceived in an entirely new way with Pure + FreeForm’s Crystal Basecoat technology. As with all of their metals, the finishes hold a 20-year warranty on fade, chalk, gloss, and color.
