The healthcare industry nowadays is increasingly focusing on developing spaces to facilitate healing through wellbeing and positivity. This translates to more biophilic designs and more creative architectural choices such as bright colors and natural-looking materials. Here is a roundup of healthcare designs that seek to improve the environment inside and out using DECO's architectural timber-look aluminium, DecoWood.
Concord Hospital, New South Wales

Products | 250 x 50mm DecoBattens |
Colour | DecoWood Natural Ironbark |
In the Concord Hospital, natural finish DecoBattens are suspended from the ceiling. The wood-grain aluminium battens are strong, durable and lightweight, requiring minimal labour to install. The sustainability of DecoWood timber-look aluminum compared to timber means that the healthcare industry is reducing its effect on forests and the use of harmful VOCs.
Victorian Specialist Centre, Victoria

Products | 150 x 50mm and 50 x 50mm one-piece DecoBattens and flat sheet cladding by DecoPanel |
Colour | Custom Finish |
Using biophilic design to improve wellbeing, this two-storey state-of-the-art medical centre has a day hospital, therapy gym and consultation suites designed with the intention of keeping patients calm and relaxed.
The timber-look DecoBattens enriches the serene, natural ideology of the Victorian centre with the timber finish seamlessly flowing from exterior to interior spaces. The custom finish woodgrain battens contrast with the clean white walls and soft blue furnishings to envelop occupants in a sense of calmness and wellbeing.

With patient wellbeing at the center of the design for Cabrini Hospital’s Gandel Wing, the focus was on the comforting, calming quality of spaces. The new wing was designed by Bates Smart and features courtyards and inner sanctuaries with timber-look DecoDeck providing relaxing spaces for patients and visitors to feel welcomed.
This project shows how the healthcare industry is embracing design that enhances patient comfort. The architects focused on melding nature and technology to encourage healing.
