Located in Seoul, South Korea AMOREPACIFIC’s headquarters was designed by David Chipperfield Architects. The 22-storey building houses more than 5,300 employees of the cosmetic company, as well as offices, a museum, library, auditorium and tea house.
The distinct identity of this building called for an innovative approach to the internal fit-out and acoustic solutions. The architects worked with Kvadrat Acoustics R&D to develop special products and installation solutions. In addition to this a Acoustic production facility was set up in Seoul to ensure swift delivery and the agility to make changes as new requirements emerged.
A range of Acoustic panels have been used on walls and ceilings throughout the building including; offices, meeting rooms, customer test areas, auditoriums, the CEO’s room, the museum, the VIP floor and utility areas, including a nursery.
Slim Panels
A number of product innovations were developed for this project including a 50mm panel installation depth. This is slimmer than the regular 55mm panel and required a new set of installation parts to be redesigned to achieve the desired appearance.
Installation System
For this building, Kvadrat Acoustics R&D developed an installation method that utilizes a suspension system with horizontal profiles on the walls and fastening hooks in the panels. This is used in lieu of the standard magnet system that helped to accelerate the installation process, particularly on long walls with similar sized panels.
L-Shaped Panels
These unique panels were developed to go around corners and to provide a seamless finish where the Acoustics wrapped two perpendicular surfaces. To achieve this, the Acoustic team from Kvadrat applied an existing fixing method on small panels to a standard-size frame. Crucially, the challenges provided by fire curtains and particular structures are met by this new design.
Extra Slim Panels
Extra slim Acoustics at only 20mm deep were developed for the AMOREPACIFIC headquarters and were used to clad all fire hydrant doors.
The combination of the architects design vision and the responsive and innovative methodology from Kvadrat has brought to life a calm, collaborative and human-centred space for the AMOREPACIFIC headquarters.
