Architect | Fulton Trotter Architects |
Location | Sinnamon Park, QLD |
Builder | FKG Group |
Product | ExoTec™ Panel and System |
Working with a concept on patient-focused care including a non-prescriptive philosophy centered on eliminating loneliness, helplessness, and boredom in residential aged care, the resort-like building aims to address the physical environment to support the emotional one.
The modern facility provides residents with appropriate technology to enhance wellbeing, and encourage engagement and connection. This contemporary approach to care is reflected in the building’s external façade. The ExoTec™ façade panel and fixing system with expressed joints give a sleek and modern look, while also providing lasting performance and natural aesthetic appeal.
Construction
The steep site meant that access was an issue during construction, using ExoTec™ prefabricated panels saved time and costs in this regard. The robust, economical, lightweight material allowed for straightforward installation with minimal scaffolding. Its versatility allowed it to be used in many different applications.
Program
The seven-story development contains 144 deluxe single and superior suites, common areas, outdoor areas, and space for family and friends. The project is made up of five buildings connected by transparent or translucent bridge links forming a loop around a central open courtyard. The buildings are slightly skewed in order to break down the mass of the whole and to nestle it more snugly in the landscape of the heavily treed hillside.
The large scale of the buildings led the architects to utilize ExoTec™ cladding for its ease of installation and to create contrast between the masonry walls to break down the extensive building into a collection of expressed elements.
Landscape
The natural landscape was the star of the site so the buildings needed to sit humbly and elegantly within it, the color palette chosen from James Hardie was deliberately restrained and neutral.
