This renovation project honors the city and nearby seacoast. The ticketing area depicts the capitol building’s stained-glass dome, utilizing recycled stained glass aggregate provided by Terrazzo & Marble Supply Companies. The project features a billowing map with solid brass longitude and latitude lines, with rivers and forests, it is both whimsical, accurate, and informative to travelers.
The design is communicated beautifully through the use of hand-blended, water-inspired epoxy that darkens gradually into deeper water and replicates sea meeting sand. Integrating multiple sizes of mother-of-pearl aggregate and mirror gives the floor a feel of the ocean underfoot.
