Merlet College located in Cuijk, The Netherlands, is a school that allows nature and daylight inside the classrooms with its panoramic views. The school was designed and built by Ector Hoogstad B.V. Architects in 2017. The architects shaped the building according to the river that lays next to the school. They wanted to create an open and transparent design, that was also self-sufficient.
To make this happen, they grouped the classrooms around a spacious atrium and illuminated it with VELUX Modular Skylights, specifically Ridgelights. They also use other type of VELUX Modular Skylights in the reading room, where Longlights where installed. Another step they took was take the energy from the sunlight and the river to make it self-suficient.
About Longlight 5-30°
This VELUX Modular Skylight, is a solution composed by a single row of modules, able to light up hallways, corridos and large rooms. Using multiple rows it's ideal for large open areas.
Longlight can reduce the cost and speed up the interior works, and has a subtle expression.
About Ridgelight 25-40°
This VELUX Modular Skylight, is a classic rooflight solution, composed by two rows of modular skylights connected at the ridge.
Ridgelight 25-40° is ideal for building with large roof openings, providing ventilation on buildings that require day or night cooling, ensuring maximum daylight and thermal comfort.
This solution is self-supporting, and can be supplied with different types of glazing, as a way to control heat and glare.
