The Legacy Fund 1 Building hosts a 264 room hotel, a conference center, fitness center, retail, and office spaces. Located in downtown Rochester, Minnesota the building is part of a major investment and revitalization of the locality. The exterior materiality of the podium is comprised of granite, glass and metal panels. The tower is clad in glass and metal panels from Pure + Freeform.
The tower panels from Pure + Freeform are a custom design, made in close collaboration between the manufacturers and the architects – HGA. The finish of the metal panels was designed to recall the quilted pattern of the agricultural landscapes of the midwestern USA. The finish also references the near-by Mayo Clinic in color and texture with a design intent to create a variegated limestone look. In order to achieve surface variation, the panels were arranged as to avoid repetition by simple addition or subtraction, allowing the surface to have subtle color changes creating a more organic aesthetic.
