In the newly developed district of NYC, the 55 Hudson Yards building finds its roots in SoHo and Early Modernism with next-level functionality. With access to the No. 7 Subway and opening directly onto the new Hudson Park, the commercial building features custom indoor-outdoor spaces for tenants, this natural modern aesthetic also extends into the lobby.
Given the dramatic triple-height of the lobby, the designers, KPF created a large scale custom surface to capture the natural timber-grain look. The lobby is illuminated by natural light, which means that the panels needed to be extremely flat, a honeycomb backer was employed to achieve the desired surface. The result is a textured, floating ceiling from Pure and Free-Form that issues warmth and makes a connection with its urban and natural surroundings.
About Pure + FreeForm
