More about this product

Jane and Peter built a brand new property for them to live in, along with Jane’s mother and their two dogs. The new-build construction was located on the edge of Bury St Edmunds, a Suffolk market town and was to be their dream home with plenty of living space.

The house featured folding doors on the facade which connected the interior and exterior of the property and inside the house to separate the couples living space from the living area of Jane's mother.

Design

The couple favored a contemporary, continental look. An open plan living was important for the downstairs, with an airy atrium and a vaulted roof. They wanted the annex to be joined onto the house, providing separate space for Jane’s mother, but be able to open up and join both internal living spaces.

During the planning and construction phase, the couple decided that Centor Integrated Doors offered the optimal solution for the large span of folding doors that they needed to open up the living space to the garden outside. The option to have screens built into the doorframe was another important factor.

The couple specified a 4-panel Centor 405 Integrated Folding Door with a built-in screen and shade. It’s an all-aluminum option, with an Iron Grey satin finish inside and out.

Finished House

The new house offers west-facing views from both the patio and the balcony outside the master bedroom, which Jane always dreamed of. There’s a beautifully landscaped garden, with a summerhouse, wooden decking forming a smooth transition to the open plan living space and wide steps leading down to a sunken fire-pit area.

Peter reports that the doors have performed their purpose over the summer, being easy to operate and useful for keeping the insects and any harsh sunlight out. The folding doors helped to create usable inside-outside space and the couple dined out a lot in the summer evenings.

The integrated screens make it possible to use them in all circumstances. As the evening draws in, they pull the screen across to keep insects out, but still enjoy the cooler air as the sun goes down. It effectively extends the time during which they can benefit from the doors.
