Aglo Systems specialises in custom lighting solutions. For the Crown Perth Grand Ballroom, Aglo Systems was commissioned to engineer and manufacture the Grand Ballroom Flower Pendants amongst other custom-built pieces. The feature lighting in the form of large-scale RGBW LED lights was part of a scheme designed by Bates Smart and Electrolight.
- Cost-effective design
- 9 x 6m and 36 x 3m diameter chandeliers
- Polished mirror gold finish
- Meet specified light output
- RGBW LED and DMX color control
- Work with the weight limitations of the ceiling structure
The Aglo Custom Manufacturing team developed a sketch by Bates Smart into 3m and 6m wide versions. The team faced challenges in balancing brief requirements with the fabrication of such a large item. For the main structure, to reduce weight load, they used a combination of stainless steel for strength and aluminum, which were then vacuum plated in mirror gold finish. For further weight reduction, rotomolded spheres rather than glass were used for the diffusers.
After preparing shop drawings, a full-size prototype was used to test assembly and operation. Since access to the fittings from above would be limited once installed, the luminaire had to be assembled and tested at ground level before being lifted into position. With such a delicate structure, cable reticulation involved over 100 separate connections which had to be made during assembly.
Once delivered, the Aglo team oversaw the assembly and installation on site. 45 units were manufactured and delivered and then hoisted 8m into the air to the ceiling.
